Wisconsin Vacations Should Include a Trip to the Wind Point Lighthouse in Wisconsin

A Wisconsin Vacation Should Include a Vacation to the Wind Point Lighthouse in Wisconsin

Just outside of Racine, WI is the small village of Wind Point. It is right on the edge of Lake Michigan. Michigan tourism should include a trip to this little hamlet and the fabulous Wind Point Light Station. The beauty of the grounds and the heritage that surrounds it make for a wonderful stop on your vacation.

Enjoying the Racine area will give you many chances to see many gorgeous views. You may be able to experience the heritage of the area as well as visit some quality museums, but the one that will definiately focus in your mind for a long time is the vacation to the shores of Lake Michigan and the views you will see from the Wind Point Lighthouse. Take along a snack lunch to enjoy on the grounds. Observe the waves break as they come up from this powerful lake and think about all the seamen that have traversed these waters during the years to haul supplies to the area or to pick up supplies for trade at distant ports. Take the chance to appreciate the opportunity to see the power, learn of the heritage and appreciate the architecture from the past that built this light house from the time before modern construction and computer generated graphics. It is absolutely a site.

One of the more popular Wisconsin attractions, the light house building is closed except for special days but the facilies are open to the public everyday from sunrise to eleven p.m. The light house is open during the first Sundays in June, July, August, September, and October. Because of the high desire to see for miles at the top of the lighthouse, reservations are necessary. Light Station Tours run from ten a.m. to 5 p.m. and there is a $10 per person fee.

You will have a chance to learn about the heritage of this lighthouse when you arrive. It was built in 1880 and is the oldest and tallest Lighthouse in operation on Lake Michigan. Although it started out with Kerosene-fired lenses it was electrified in 1924 and then modernized in 1964. Since the station towers 110 feet to its focal plane the light is visible for a distance of nineteen miles. Just imagine the thousands of seaman that have been saved from disaster because of this Lighthouse leading their path to safety.

The lighthouse was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The village of Wind Point was given ownership of the property by the National Park Service in 1997. The Coast Guard still operates the light as a public navigation aid.

Come and view this gorgeous part of times past and possibly, take a vacation to see the other Lighthouses on the Lake. It will make a fantastic Wisconsin vacation for you.

Wicked chronicles the spellbinding land of OZ before Dorothy went to visit, and it appears that OZ isn’t quite what we might have thought it to be. If you actually desire a little taste of the city then you may check out In The Heights. This Tony award winning musical truly captures the Puerto Rican culture of Brooklyn in both its music and choreography. This production took the theater world by force, and people are still talking about it.

For people that would like to see the last word in Broadway sight then you should check out disney’s production of Mary Poppins. Thus you can make reservations depending on the time of the year, the number of family members, the extent of the vacation.

The offer for disney world vacations seems to be more advantageous for 2009 than it was for 2008, particularly in the context of world financial crisis. There have been considerable discounts granted in comparison with last year’s rates. For example, you can now pay some $1100, for disney world vacations while a year ago, the same kind of package cost $1500 . At least with a travel agency you are certain to book something nice.

Florida-More Than Great Beaches

Along the Golf Coast, there are many places that you can enjoy the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. In fact, on of the best places to visit the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico is in Florida. Florida is a peninsula that goes around the entire peninsula. Although many of the beaches in Florida are perfect for a beach vacation, the Island Keys is not ones of these places. Thanks to the beautiful climate and water the Keys is perfect for a vacation filled with water sports, but not much more than that.

Make sure to visit Key West and stand at the southern most point in the US and visit the Hemingway house to see all the freaky six toed cats wandering around. The other beaches in Florida are some of the best in the country. On the Atlantic side you have great destinations like the always hot and beautiful Miami Beach. Farther north there is Cocoa Beach which has the world famous Ron Jon store that is open 24/7. It is a tourist destination, but is still fun to visit. The beach is great for body surfing and surfing as well as just laying in the warm Florida sun.

Although the beaches are great, Florida also has many other great attractions. To start with you have disney and other themed parks located in or around the Orlando area. On the east coast you can visit Daytona Beach then across the state along the Gulf of Mexico coast is Tampa and Clearwater. Both are great places for families, couples and friends.

Tampa is a fun city with plenty to do, for fine dining and sporting events, to world famous theme parks like Busch Gardens. Across the bridge is the Clearwater/ St. Petersburg area. Clearwater has one of the finest beaches in the whole state, with tons of white sand and plenty of sun and fun. There is so much to do there, that you might need more than a week to do it all.

South of St. Petersburg is Sarasota and Ft. Myers. There are so many great seafood restaurants and Sarasota is a hot spot for the artist scene in Florida boasting one of the biggest collections of fine art at the Ringling Museum. North Florida, around the panhandle and along the Gulf coast towards Alabama boasts its own set of beaches and attractions and could be its own vacation.

Two Bays, One Town: Los Gatos

Los Gatos, with its home-town ambiance and lush terrain, has likened comparisons to such neighboring cities as Berkeley or Monterey. The Monterey Bay, though not as glamorous as the San Francisco Bay, has slowly shaped itself into something like a new Silicon Valley. Los Gatos, straddling both Bays, has become the center for a new, emerging media industry.

Within the last two decades, Los Gatos and the northern Monterey Bay area have come to host a number of new media companies, including the video rental giant, Netflix. To be sure, the mega-corporation that sends you your flicks is located in the quaint, not necessarily small, town of Los Gatos. For readers unfamiliar with the Spanish language, Los Gatos translates to “The Cats.”

Residents and tourists are drawn to the small-town appeal and big-town feel of Los Gatos. Attracted to this cozy town and picturesque area are such artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs as Aaron Eckhart, Marshall Merritt, Peggy Fleming, Steve Wozniak, and Jeremy Roenick. It is a town that blends the cafe experience of San Francisco with the polish of San Jose. And should traipsing through the better-known parts of the Bay Area sound appealing, the BART train station is located in Campbell just a few minutes to the north.

The Spanish land grant was originally entitled “Rancho Rinconada de Los Gatos” which roughly translates to “The Corner of the Cats” named after the concentrated presence of mountain lions in the region. The town was founded in the mid-1850s along Los Gatos Creek, in the shadow of the Sierra Azules Mountains. By 1887, the town was officially incorporated and became a fixture in the region’s logging industry.

The city the mountain lions founded is poised to become the next center pulse pint of Silicon Valley. When visiting the Monterey Bay area, most travelers neglect this welcoming gem of a town. Most settle for unsatisfying stays in Monterey, San Jose or San Francisco. The alternative is finding a well-appointed hotel in picturesque Los Gatos.

Booking a Monterey Bay hotel has never been easier. Los Gatos has many well-appointed hotels for families of any size.
