Travel Woes – Rising Fuel Prices And Dropping Dollar Values

Traveling has a long tradition and our societal wanderlust gives us an opportunity to revitalize ourselves by experiencing the world. Unfortunately, the cost of traveling is up and it appears it will continue an upward trend.

There are many factors contributing to the situation, but two stand out. The cost of fuel is on the rise and few expect it to come down as oil demand grows while supplies diminish. The following dollar is also a killer for those using the currency.

Faced with the new expense of traveling abroad, are there any strategies you can employ to get the most bang for your buck? Of course, the answer is yes. Some are simple. Some are out of the box. Some are painful, but necessary.

The biggest cost you will often run into when traveling is the cost of your flight. Obviously, you can go nuts on hotels and the like, but flights usually are the biggest expense. So, are there strategies we can use to get around the cost?

The first strategy is pretty well known. You should fly during the off season to your destination. The prices between high and low seasons are dramatically different. Flying to Paris in July is going to be expensive unless you think out of the box.

Ah, but what if you just have to go during the high season? Are there any options. One is to fly something called a charter flight. These are part time airlines that operate during high seasons. They are no frills flights, but pretty cheap.

Yet another out of the box strategy is to become a courier. Specifically, an air courier. Yes, they really exist. You agree to carry documents in exchange for help with the ticket. Free tickets are rare, but you can save 70 percent or so easily.

After flying, putting your head on a pillow is usually the second biggest cost you will face. You pay for a luxury hotel. To save some serious cash, try a hostel or dorm. You can usually save five to 10 times the money you would spend at the hotel.

Travelers should avoid the tourist traps and get immerse themselves in the local culture. One way to do this and save a ton of money is to rent a room in a home. You can usually find rooms at the train station and they are cheap.

With oil demand growing and supplies dwindling, there is great concern about whether traveling abroad might become a more difficult proposition for most people. It need not so long as you are creative with your money. Just go!
